2002 3.4L Harness/Tranny/ABS Problems
OK here is the deal.
I have a 1991 2.2L Beretta Manual. Not sure of tranny type.
I am putting a 2002 3.4L in the 91.  I bought a 1996 PCM and Harness. ÂÂÂ
Problems I have ran into:
1.) Unknown Plug
This plug well I just can't find out where it goes.  I looked around the area where it is at and found nothing.  All the sensors that I know of are in the right places.
So what I did was trace the wires.  I traced the pink wire back to C1 pin#68.
Traced the Purple wire to C1 pin# 66.
The purple leads back to the "Evap Vacuum Switch Input"  I don't know where that is.  I was thinkin it was for the vacuum line that sits under the coil packs. You can see the red plug in the first pictures.
Ask for more info if needed or pictures.
2.) Tranny Problem.
The 2002 3.4L came from a grand am auto.  And I am putting it in a manual.  I see that I am going to have some problems.  Hopefully they are an easy fix.  I do NOT know what type of tranny it is.  If you might know let me know.  Save me on some work.
3.) ABS Problem.
I am useing a Master Cyc. out of a 1996 3.1L Z26.  It has 4 plugs on it. All but 1 fit.  I have not traced the wire back to the PCM to verify it, but I am pretty sure thats the right one. ÂÂÂ
This connection looks round
If you look real good you will see the ends are pointed.  Not really sure on what I should do.

2002 3.4L Harness/Tranny/ABS Problems
Wait, so you are using the engine harness from the GA?
If so, that's your first problem. You need to be using one from at least a 3.1 5spd Beretta. The extra plug is probably something that the GA has that we don't (traction control, different EVAP setup, etc).
The best option would be a 96 engine harness, removing the unnecessary automatic stuff from the harness (completely, all the way back to the ECM plugs), and wiring in the VSS (speed sensor) plug, and reverse light switch, by tracing the automatic wiring back and finding out where the corresponding wires goes for the VSS and reverse switch.
If you want factory cruise, you need to make sure your engine harness has cruise. You'll also need the black box/cables from a 96 w/ factory cruise (not the vacuum style found on 87-94's and some 95's).
You are also going to have to switch the dash harness over to a 96 (again, one w/ cruise if you want factory cruise).
You'll need a 96 ABS master pump... you say you have one, but I don't think you do... there are only 4 plugs for the brake setup near the master cylinder... 1 plugs into the reservoir for fluid level, 2 plug into the top of the pump where the cylinders are, and the last one plugs into the black box on the master cylinder. On 95's, there are two plugs that go into this black box, which it sounds like you got a 92-95 model ABS master cylinder instead of a 96... but I'd need more pictures to confirm that.
On top of that stuff, you'll need a 96 glove box, 96 ECM, 96 ABS computer, 96 vent flap (behind the heater box, underneath the wiper cowl), 96 ECM bracket, 96-99 fuel injector harness (has 3 pin sensor for the coolant sensor instead of the 2 pin found in OBD1.5).
There is other nitty-gritty stuff, but that pretty much sums up the major stuff.
Get better pictures of where the plugs/parts are so we can help.

2002 3.4L Harness/Tranny/ABS Problems
Sorry If I did not add/say that I DO have a 1996 Beretta 3.1L auto. PCM/Harness.  And just a few min. ago I was down stairs and saw the PCM from the 1996.  WELLL it had 3 connections.  Damn!! I yell at my dad what year was it.  He said 94.  My heart dropped.  I already had the injectors put in from that car to.  I was just not thinking.
ECM PLugs? Not sure where they are. Same thing as a PCM?  All I know is that that is going to be a pain.
No cruise needed.
Man now I need me to find some 96 parts. I thought I had it all planned out.
What about vacuum lines from a 96.  I have parts from a 1994 Z26.
Another Problem rises now,  I hit a wall last month and it took out the hood fenders light front section.  (1991 2.2L) I need body parts.  What years match eath other.  Whats some ideas?
I think I have the ABS Comp. I will take pics tonight.
Also any other major ideas.
I see you have a 3.4L manual.  How does she drive?

Injectors are simple to change... shouldn't take much more than 30 minutes... if the engine is out of the car, it should take less (just because you don't have to stoop under the hood).
ECM/PCM same thing in Beretta's... Electronic Control Module/Powertrain Control Module. There will be two long connectors on the ECM in 96's... one has a blue connector, the other one is clear.
If you are going to go OBDII, you are going to need the vacuum lines from a 96 (just the section that goes from under the coolant overflow tank to behind the coils where the EVAP purge solenoid is).
Body parts you should be fine with everything.
My car runs great now... I had some issues when I swapped the 3400 over (something went haywire in the engine harness), but since I've converted to OBDII, and own a DHP PowrTuner, I've been able to modify settings in the ECM. Well, I didn't do my current ECM, a friend from CT did.
Either way, it drives great... I put about 6000 miles on the 5spd swap before I put the 3400 in, and now that the 3400 is running properly, I'll be putting more miles on that.
The best thing that helped driveability from the 5spd swap standpoint w/ the OBDII conversion was that the idle was able to be increased, which helped out tremendously... before the OBDII swap, the car would idle around 650-700 RPM... now it idles around 900 rpm once it's warmed up.

Yup the engine is out of the car.  I just hate back tracking. ÂÂÂ
I looked for a 96 Beretta in iowa and i found one for like 1500. Forget that. Thats like turbo money
I think this is the ABS Comp.
I plan on getting a DHP PowrTuner, but since that site shut down?  I was going to by some turbo parts from him.  Yea i know someone is working on the programming for a turbo with the DHP. But since I checked nothing.
ALso what do think about that uknown plug i have.  Something for the chassie.
Also when i get a car for parts should i pull the 2.2 out and do the engine swap then or do the body work first. (Fenders, hood latch assy.)
That's sounds great. I was thinkin what kind of RPMS I would get out of the 3.4L.  Any times yet?  How much did you spend. How long did it take you?

Get the engine/trans in running and driving before you do the body work. Especially before you do any sort of paint work... you wouldn't want any scratches in your fresh paint after doing all that work, would you?
I really don't know what that plug is... which harness is that from? GA or Beretta? What year is that engine harness from?
No times yet on my setup, hopefully I'll have times from the track @ BFest.
As far as costs go, I really don't have a clue (and probably don't want to know what it all adds up to)...

The harness came off of a 1996 3.1L Beretta. Same with the PCM.
I hear you on the cost deal. Its better not to know.
Is the pictures above. is that my ABS Comp?

Yes, that's the ABS computer (mounts in the firewall). It's the OBDII one.
You'll still need a 96 ABS master cylinder.
Until I get back to my car (3 weeks), I really don't have a clue what that plug is for...

Well I have a lot to find right now. So I am sure Ill be busy for awhile. Just really can't do nothing. Well I could take my 2.2L out and get the engine bay ready. Buy some motor mounts. Sensors. SO I don't know.
Where is your car?

MI... in storage since November 2004... I moved down to NC in October 2005, and left the car up there because it wasn't running properly.

Well I was doin some thinkin lastnight. In spite of this news of me finding a 96 Beretta for parts. I also want to move out of my house. I think i might have to put this project on the back burner for a month or so. Unless I can find some parts from a junk yard. Even then I dont think I will be working on it everyday.
I hate to say it but Its true.

I'm not sure about the compatibility of the newer fenders with older cars....My '88 has had fenders from an '88, '89, '91, and a '95. The fender from the '95 wasn't even close to fitting - it couldn't even be installed because the upper bolt surface was much too wide. It appeared to be an OEM fender. Everything else I've tried has been compatible. Just something to keep in mind when you search for body stuff.

Thanks for the heads up. Ill have to figure out something. Well there might be some light at the end of the tunnel. I found out my work is not even paying what they promised. So I bitched and they say they are going to pay back everything they owe me Plus start paying me more. Im happy. I think I can move out and be able to get this project up again.

So this is a list I need:
1996 Beretta parts.
1.) ABS Computer
2.) ABS Master Cyclinder with res.
3.) Fuel Rail with injecters and engine temp sensor.
4.) Inside harness for gauge cluster ect.  Also thinkin will all the plugins fit with this harness.
Question Parts:
1.) Vac. stuff that came off of a 1994 Z26.  Map sensor plug fits. The sensor under the coil pack fits.
2.) Coolant Tank. Have not checked for sensor correct plug in.
3.) Power steering pump. No sensors.
4.) Throttle body. All sensors fit.
Also does anyone know if any of these parts can come off another type of car.  I am looking in the junk yard.  I can't find any 96 berettas around here. I did get some info from a junk yard. He told me the ABS control Mod. would fit my beretta from a 96 Grand am. What else can I get from a grand am.
Plus body parts that fit a 1991 2.2L.
