Had a scare last week

Post by Godlike »

I was cleaning up the engine bay in my GTZ and noticed the nitrous fogger nozzle was loose. I pulled on it and it fell right out! There was supposed to be a 1/16-27 npt nut holding it on to my intake so I ripped that off and found nothing. Then I held the throttle at wot and tried to feel for it with a coat hanger but didn't hear anything rattling. Only one place left for it to be.... Image

Thank god the valves don't open enough to draw something this size into the cyl. Luckily it was just sitting there loosely (not wedged) so it looks like no harm done. And I drive the car about once a year so it likely ran for less than 30 miles like this. I was pretty pissed when I found it though. Nitrous is hard enough on the motor :x

That sucks! Glad you found it before bringing it down to TN though. Whew.

All of my setups thread into the intake or spacer. Not through it for this exact reason.
Put a dab of blue threadlocker on it when it goes back together.

Made an aluminum weld-on bung to thread the nozzle into at work last night. That way I can mount it right where it was. It gained 48whp on a 50 shot in that location with very even plug readings/wear ,so I want to keep it where its at.

Ill have to order the unicorn nitrous tap because no stores seem to carry it. The bottles are empty and it has hot plugs in it from a few years ago too so no spray for the GTZ at bfest

Well its all back together now. Put a new alternator in too as the 2 year delco one was falling apart. All 3 through bolts came loose and one sheered off in the casting. Advance auto parts warrantied it out though.
Re routed and loomed some of the wiring while I was in there. just some cleaning to do now. Then time to pack. Good thing I took the whole week off.
