Post by LOLVTEC »

Local dealership that I bought the majority of the parts from that went into my GTZ finally let me have this.

I am happy.

Still want a Black Z26 though.

It's framed but the glass is broken. It's pretty old and a bit faded obviously, but it'll look cool in my garage.

Seriously, if anyone has a Black Z26 or knows of someone who does, let me know. I REALLY want to buy one.

I do have a black Z26 body kit I might be persuaded to part with, and there was a black 5-speed GT for sale not too long ago that might still be around... How do you feel about cloning a Z26 (I want a black '90 GTZ personally, and may have to build one someday )? I doubt my parts are ideal just because I am not nearby ANYONE in the community and shipping parts that big would likely be prohibitive, plus you still need wheels and suspension parts, but I guess what I am saying is you do have other options than finding a rare black Z and I will help if I can... Is it worth PAINTING a non-black Z, or does that tend to push it out of your price-range? Are you set on the "real thing"?

Thanks Retta, but yes, I am really looking for an actual Z26 car. It's just too much work to change a car to be exactly like what I'm looking for, plus I'd rather have what was considered one from the factory.

I look at what makes a Z26 a Z26 and I feel the parts aren't unique enough or enough differences to really care if the factory did it or I did... It's not like people want a matching numbers engine/body and even if you did the Z engines were exactly the same as a base so you wouldn't even have to change that. I mean I made my base exactly what I wanted because I'm sure I never would have found that car anywhere. Only things that are Z on it is the body kit and seats...

Yeah and factor in the odds of finding that car, RUST free... That's getting closer and closer to impossible each year.

Oh I know, they are a dying breed it's rather upsetting. My two berettas are the last I will ever own.

I did a GTZ appearance clone but am VERY excited to start my GTU clone. Never have seen one for sale in eastern Canada for the last 10 years. The entire goal of the project is to make asylum jealous of the wheels.

Clone cars with a solid foundation beat any oem car that's rusty

Suspension (in most cases). Wheels. I can't remember if the cluster is different or not. I know 94+ is different from 91-93. Exhaust tips. Door panels are different too. The cloth filler piece is a different material. Whoopee, I know. Also the fog light switch/setup. Decals. All the little things add up to me.

I've already been through converting a 90 GTZ into a 92 GTZ... that was a PITA and it was essentially the same car (body wise)... It's that OCD thing, to me it's not a Z26 unless it came from the factory that way.

Any original Z26 suspension you find will be garbage by now... Struts and shocks are guaranteed to be replaced with aftermarket stuff which is not valved the same as GM was... Maybe the springs are still FE3 but other than that the only other differences will be the 30mm front swaybar and rear internal bar. I can see where your coming from but you are extremely limiting yourself and chances of ever getting one.
