Dying family member.......

Post by Mr. Beefy »

Well I really dont want to bring some things in my personal life here but I have to get it out.  My grandfather, who lives in FL, has been batteling cancer for the past 8+ years and it's caught him. I used to go there every year in the summer when I was a kid and I was just down there about 4 years ago on vacation. He was a line man back in the 50's-60's for Bell Atlantic wel feel this is linked because of the voltages on the lines he used to climb. It started with Breast cancer and basically spread through his body. In the past month, he took a turn for the worst..... couldnt sleep in a bed, then couldnt walk, etc. He is now in hospice care. My mother (her father) is down there with him right now. She is a nurse.

Well I was speaking to her yesterday and she was next to him. She asked me if I wanted to talk to him. He got on the phone and basically it was saying goodbye and goodluck on his journey. That was one of the hardest phone calls that I have ever had in my life.  I would love to be able to see him before he passes but I dont have the money to go down, and I'm not sure if I can handle seeing him in the condition he's in. Another big thing is he could be gone in the morning. I wouldnt want to upset him seeing me being upset. And honestly I'm not sure when it's going to happen but from what I hear he cant breathe and has mucous and blood in his lungs in essence choking him. My grandfather was always a "hard ***" in a way..... meaning he never let anyone see what kind of pain he was in. Hearing him last night was very upsetting for me. It's not long before the inevetible happens. I'm just waiting for the call from my mother.

My thoughts are with you. It is coming up on the one year anniversary since my mom passed from cancer. If there is anything I can do seeing as I am in the same city as him just let me know.

Oh, man....Sousa, I'm sorry to hear it dude.... I don't really know what to say, except I felt the same way when my grandmother passed (never got to know my Grandfather, he was a cop and was killed before I was born). I wish you only the best and hope you find your way through this. I know it's tough.... if you need anything and I can help feel free to call or PM me. You have my number.
