Many Thanks
Thanks to everyone to came out and attended the 11th annual BerettaFest two weeks ago. I hope everyone made it back safely. I've had a very frantic time since I got back personally. I arrived home tuesday morning with the intent of starting reassembling my autox GTZ which had its crank laying on the ground... Needless to say I botched removing the oil pump drive gear and wound up having to wait 2 more days for it to come into autozone. Then the night I was to work on it, my dad's dog bit Rebecca on the hand (not too bad- no stitches required) and we had to go to the ER. After we returned and dealt with the cops (required by law if a dog bite occurs), and having the dog taken to the humane society for quarrantine ($300), I found myself in the morning of friday with the crank still on the ground and an autox coming up on sunday... After kicking butt all day friday, I started aforementioned GTZ at midnight. Much to my delight- it purred like a big fat cat. Saturday the 28th was nothing but driving- putting on about 500 break in miles. On my second run at autox on sunday (car's 3rd run) I split one of those god-forsaken front motor mounts (yes- it was from autozone, and NO I'm not putting another one on), and we were sent chasing all over Milwaukee to find a temporary replacement. I got 2 more runs in (only 3 of 6 total for the day) before it poured on us, finishing 4th and only .5 seconds back from 3rd. My best run of the day, I coaxed it off the line and the 1-2 shift so I could drive it home... $ says that if I had the good mount (that I put in the garnet GTZ for Bfest) I would have been knocking on 2nds door ;) Tomorrow I'll be going to the jy in search of a low mileage GM mount off of some grandma's Calais or something that was sent to the yard because of a blown head gasket. And now I find myself in freakin' July already, scheming on how to fix and improve the car even more before my next event- a two day on Aug 2-3. Just thought I'd share a week in my crazy life- and provide an answer to the fact that I've been nowhere to be seen lately- except under the hood of a GTZ ;)
PS- Anyone in the northern IL/southern WI area that autoxes should come out to at least one of the days of the two day event on aug 2-3. It is always a fun event full of competition, and the club (www.waiautox.org) really goes above and beyond- offereing lunch and dinner on site every year. It would be cool to see some of you guys who were saying they wanted to autox more a little closer to home!
