Drive belt removal
Anyone got any tips of removing the drive belt from the 2.8? I bought a serpentine belt tool, but it's not really doing the job.

Get a long sturdy pole or pipe.  Pry up on the tensioner, slip the belt off.
Have someone [somewhat strong] grab the pipe to keep the tensioner up while you're underneath putting the belt back on the bottom pulley(s)
That's the only way I've ever done it.

Hmm I've never had a problem with the belt tool. Sure you are doing it right?

I believe so. I'm trying to get to the center bolt, but the space between the tensioner and frame is so small, the only socket I have that'll fit can't get in place.
I do have a smaller crowfoot bit (I think that's what they're called), but it's just rounding off the edges.

I do it like Aly described, Hasn't failed yet. And minus the money on the tool.

Don't take out the center bolt!!
You need the tool to slip into the 3/8 square hole near the end of the arm. You need the adapter that looks like the end of a 3/8 ratchet or breakover bar.

Drive belt removal
I just slip a normal wrench (14mm?)over the square end of the tensioner and pry up then slip the last bit of the belt over the alternator pulley to get it on. Piece of cake. Mind you I can get my hands into tighter places than most people too.
Getting it off is the EASY part. If your replacing it, just cut it. I dont mess around with removing it properly.

All this time, I was trying to unscrew the wrong one. Live and learn I guess.
I just have an old belt and a failing power steering pump, so I'd like to learn how to do this myself rather than depend on someone else. Dumbest question never asked and all that.
