oil leak 93 beretta 3.1

Post by stngds9 »

I bought this care from a friend who never took care of it and I am in for a lot of work. It has an oil leak some where. the bottom of the engine is caked with leaked oil. the upper part of the engine is almost as dirty. Where would you recommend that I look first for the leak.

Common leak areas are, Valve covers, Distributor plug o-ring (since our cars are distributor less we still have a gear to run the oil pump off the cam and that plug has an o-ring on it that will typically leak like a bastard) Oil pan gasket, Rear main seal, Front main seal.

I would start in that order too, I'll bet your valve covers are leaking... Almost all do, and then the heavy oil leak will most likely be the distributor o-ring seal, those make quite a mess and quick too.

Take her to the car wash and give her a good wash and check oil. Make sure shes full and drive her around and just check on it.

What do you have to do in order to change the Distributor plug o-ring?
