my A/C lost her GAS

Post by Red_Bra_Black_GTZ »

lets keep in mind that i mostly store the car.(1990 GTZ with 47xxx miles on her)

took it on the road (may 1st), prior to that for the past month it sat in my driveway. and prior to that in a heated winter wonder land.

the month it sat in my drive way, i would run it, and the A/C was fine. on Friday it lost all its freon...
my garage has always used a dye in the freon, no visible leeks...
typical years, i have to charge it in the spring(as i just did) and it would last till i put it into storage, but lately, it does not last till September.

Any leaks down by the core connection on the firewall? And you sure your shop uses a dye? Because as you noted if its leaking it should be very visable... Other than that I'm not sure what to tell you. If the core was leaking I think you would notice in the car right after you got it charged.

puts the dye in, puts on the special goggles and the flash light... over the past 10+ years, they have never found my leak... and it is so slow...

It could be leaking out of the evaporator core, or possibly the condensor where they can't see it.

you might be leaking at your txv(thermostatice expansion valve) i dont thnk berettas has h-blocks in that year. anyways its on the firewall behind all the plastic its a pain to get too trust me but you need to check your core also it could all be leaking inside the car use a uv like form a auto store and check under your dash. if you havent you need to conver to r134a. r12 is going for over $100 a pound and berettas take around 2 pounds

No TXV. They use an orifice tube for refrigerant metering. You could also use R406a for better compatibility with the existing R12 components.

Nope, no TXV. I even checked the parts book.

i looked into the txv(thermal expansion valve) a little further it was only used from 91-93. but i would still check under the dash for a leak
