hey i just changed hy heads on mt 3.1 and my low coolant light goes on after awhile of driving and it is true the coolant does go low but it does not intake any coolant from the resevoir and the system is filled with mostly water could the water be evaporating into steam and that could be causing this problem? because i thought of a pressure cooker when a pressure cooker work it takes less heat to prduce steam because it is under pressure so if the system is under pressure           ( radiator cap)   maybe the water is just turning into stem and that is why the system is not performing like it should. there are no external leaks that i can see i dont smell any coolant being burnt there is not steam out of the exhaust and there is no coolant in the oil from its consistency and is the oil is till very slick. so that is my idea please help it is hot in illinois now i dont need to be stranded.

i think im might try a new cap maybe the spring that lets coolant in is busted for some reason my cars temp fluctuates quite a bit so it is pushing the coolant when it is real warm and pulling in when it cools down. so ill try that its a cheap fix anways.

You are thinking backwards.  Incresed pressure increases the boiling point.

You can have your cap tested or get a new one.  You should not be loosing coolant no matter what is in there.

Did you put a new high quality thermostat in the car when you swapped?  I'd change it first with a fluctuating temp.  Either that or make sure you have all the air out of the system.

i changed the cap, after i thought about my post i did more research, anyways i did get all the air out it burped out the rest after awhile, the cap was an original so i figured it was time. now the enigine only has about 8500 miles on it rebuit over winter. so the thermostat is new. and i tell you what autozone heads are garbage the valves were not laped right and the seals that they put on suck they dont seal much just grease.

get anitfreeze in there!  water will not lubricate the coolant pumps impeller seal and WILL kill the pump seal CAUSING a leak through the vent hole in the bottom of the pump.

First, with the system under pressure it will not intake coolant from the reservoir, only on start will it do that.  

If you still have a leak and are SURE it is not the head gasket then try looking at other places for a leak.  It may help to look and feel all hoses prior to engine getting hot and a leaking hose connection can evaporate quickly on a hot engine.  Also check the tranny fluid for presence of water if it is an auto as the tank may have a hole allowing coolant in.  Also consider the heater core, There is a drain for it on the engine wall but it can clog or drip when you don't notice, plus the heater box holds a bit of coolant too.

What is the temp like when running?  if too hot it could just go onto the road from the overflow.  

And get coolant in it!
