clutch locked up
I just got a 96 4cyl standard, when i got it the trany was stuck in gear and wudnt come out so i had to rip the cv axles out and haul it to my house some 30 miles away... anywho.. i popped the hood and found a trany line to be cut, the clutch resvior is empty and thats all that appears to be wrong... what are the chances of the trany itself being bad? it doesn't slip, ITS STUCK IN GEAR... so this leads me to believe the clutch is still good??? any ideas?
im going out to the car right now to find where that line goes and fill her up with some dot 3 maybe run her to the gas station if i can

well i just went out and messed wit it awhile, i have concluded that the line that was cut is not a trany line, its a fuel line = fuel leaking on the exhaust (not good) well i went ahead and fixed that so one problem gone--------- 1 down 1 to go
i filled up the clutch resvior.. wasn't leaking (thats good) but... the clutch pedal goes all the way to the flood when pressed with absoultely no resistance, it also doesn't return... i looked at the pedal and its connected to the clutch cylinder but i was thinking maybe the clutch cylinder is bad??? im going back out to crack the bleeder screw loose and check for pressure... will be back shortly... if anybody has any advice please post

oh god, cut fuel line!!! A metal one? That would suck. I would say it's a bad slave or master I dont know which one or both, but probably it's the hydrualic system. Not sure if the leaking fluid would go inside the tranny and coat the clutch. That would be bad as it would ruin the clutch. Not sure if the trans has an internal slave or not.
But sounds like you are on the right track to solving it, one step at a time.

took the trany out today... wasn't bad at all i did it in less than an hour but yep i found out what the problem was, found all of my problems at once! The trany was stuck in gear 'locked up' because the throwout bearing went out and leaked dot 3 all over the pretty much new clutch (or so it appeared) once i got the throwout bearing off I realised they had a big chunk of metal missing beneath it, looks like the throwout bearing worn in to the casing of the trany and ate it away, I knew right off the back when i took the trany out and they had metal shavings all over the place... well that kind of summed everything up right there... even tho i had the trany out i went ahead and bleed the clutch cylinder anyway just to see if i could get pressure in the clutch and voila! have pressure now! so tom hopefully i can get to the JY and get another trany with less miles on it
my ? is... does anybody know which tranys i can get that will line up perfectly? I'm thinking none unless of a 96 beretta 2.2. I'm keeping the old trany until i get the newer one just incase i need any parts like i did with my auto trany i swapped out the grand prix... -i said enuff
