1994 4T60e - Tranny question
Lastnight I had to run out to grab something and everytime I came to a stop the car would start off in 2nd gear. If I gave it enough gas - probably more than 30% it would downshift into first and be fine. On the way back home (after I shut the car off and turned it back on) it shifted normally. This is the first time its ever done this - with 244,000 kms on the clock. I checked the fluid when I got home - nice and pink with no burned smell whatsoever. Any ideas?

Re: 1994 4T60e - Tranny question
My guess would be one of the shift solenoids on its way out. I've never tore into a 4T60E, but I know it's a common problem with the 4L60Es.

Solenoids not really common... I have quite a few miles on the ones in my red car and they never had issues.
Stupid question but was your speedo working properly when it was happening?
Speed sensor or ECM issue could be partly to blame since after a restart it acted normal.

Mine went into a limp mode like that once after locking the front tires in the rain with a non functioning abs unit. But it would stay in second and not drop to first

Speedo was working, no SES light came on, but I suppose I should check for stored codes. Will report back.

Pre 96's don't seem to log many codes for the trans... my 96 seems more sensitive on that front.
