Blowing Cold

a couple days ago my heat worked fine i tried it tonight and i got nothing but cold air, the heat was at the 1/4th mark, it was warmed up, and there is nothing visibly wrong under the hood. any suggestions?

Sounds like a sticking/stuck thermostat or a blockage in your heater core. Might need a flush. How does your oil look? This can also be a sign of a blown head gasket as a  blown head gasket can cause this problem by allowing air into the system and air locking it. I would say you either have a bad thermostat, or (hopefully not) a bad or clogged heater core. GL.

just changed the oil tuesday and from what i saw it looked normal along with the coolant so i hope a head gasket is not the problem. would the car over heat if it was the thermostat?

Depends. If it was stuck shut, yes. If it was stuck open (most good thermostats have fail-safes now, so if they fail, they stick open) , no. If your coolant level is good, your oil looks good and your car isn't getting hot, I would say you almost definitely have a clogged or shot heater core. Flush it and then try your heat. If it works, that was the problem, if not, time to put a new heater core in. GL.

Yea, I was running under the assumption your flaps were working properly. They could be sticking as SCBeretta suggested as well. GL.

what flaps are you talking about?

the flaps that control the air temp. it blends outside air temp with air going over the heater core.  they can stick, my guess is that you turned everything off the last few days cause of the nice weather and now it won't work right? I can't seem to remember if that is vacuum operated, any help on this?

no the flaps are on the inside in the center.

If you had cruise control before try it again and see if it works. and also when you change the switch for like a/c, vent, heat see how long it takes to change over to other controls, if you have no vacuum neither of these will work properly or at all

I hate to ask, but with all that work done I have to. Is the cooling system full? Sometimes you need to run the engine a little and refill. Is the thermostat in the right way? Do you have a temp gauge, what does it read? Please give as much info as you can. I see that it's your first post so, hi and welcome.
