Alternator question??
Soo i am pretty positive that my alternator went out on me. i am looking into buying a new one. i was wondering if there is a difference between a base alternator and a Z26 alternator. FYI i have a 1996 base, V6, with A/C.
Thank you for your help,
Kyle

Re: Alternator question??
No sir, no difference.
Just make sure you buy a brand new one, not remanufactured. If you have to go remanned make sure you get a lifetime warranty because you'll end up needing it more than likely.
I've worked in parts for a while and the quality on remanned stuff just isn't what it used to be.

Re: Alternator question??
I've heard good things about motor city reman, but I have no personal experience with them. I do know that anything I can get locally that is reman - is garbage.
Re: Alternator question??
Both of my remans have lasted almost exactly as long as the original one that came with the engine. So in my experience, I have not seen a difference... lol
But I now have an alt cooler, so that should help some. Though I have been toying with the idea of relocating the rectifier..... Would take some work to do so, but would it be a benefit? Who knows, since that is usually what burns up due to the extreme heat. I have never had one fail due to a bearing on the Z but the Cav I had did.
