What do you shoot??

Post by DTMAce »

Recently, I have been sort of inducted back into doing some range shooting, primarily .22 and some 12 gauge stuff.

Last year, I helped the range out building a saloon front for their western shooting events..

It so happens I have been considering buying a better .22 for myself, as I like to do target shots and that.

Well, word got around, and late last fall I was offered this:

Image

This is a CZ .22 Varmint rifle. BRAND new! It had only been shot by the factory before I picked it up. Now when I got it, it only was the rifle, one clip. Since then I added a second clip, the 3x9 BSA Sweet 22 40mm Scope, and had the plunger jeweled. :D As it sits, probably worth around 650-700..... So far I have nothing in it, except labor... I still think I owe. I know I wouldn't have bought this ordinarily, but man is it a damn nice gun to shoot. I can already keep my shots grouped to less than a quarter if I try.

I haven't even put 50 rounds through it yet. My other range gun is a really nice Mossburg 500A 12 Gauge. This gun has also been used very little, I know I have put maybe 100 rounds or so through it since I owned it. Nothing special though.

Anyhow, I don't do bad, just that I don't get to play enough with them. Hoping to do more this year though. What do some of you guys use for range work?
I know my next pickup will probably be a pistol of some sort, been looking at 45's lately. :D

Not bad, I actually don't mind it for now, but may change it up later for one that I can tweak. Dad installed one into his, don't know WHAT it is at the moment, but it has a... sharp pull, if that makes sense. There is no slide in the movement, it just goes instant, hard to describe. Not really savvy on gun stuff. Dad does his own reloading, cleaning, tweaking, you name it. Even making his own lead shot for 12 Gauge rounds now. Pretty bad-ass actually. Makes all his own bullets for the cowboy stuff, has a pair of matched pistols, couple of period rifles, etc. Right now he can pour .45, .40, .38, .308, and I think .32 cal bullets as needed. Been making a thing of it, testing rounds for the shoots with different hardness, weight, powder, etc.. Crazy.

The range guys get into the cowboy action stuff, get dressed up, everything. Its nuts! lol

Dad has been even making targets for them, some pretty amazing stuff.

I just like to do the .22 long range target stuff. My old .22 was pitiful in comparison to this thing... lol

LOL WOODY!

- Stevens 325C 30-30. Hunting rifle. Open sights all the way. this rifle has killed alot of game.
- Charles Daly VR 20ga. pump, no plug holds five in the tube. All rounder. small game/block shoots/skeet/personal defense/ etc.
- Glock 21 .45 acp 20 round extended clip. A very fun pistol. Mainly a protective piece. also fun for target/ bird/ action shooting.

Wow man your dad is hard core! I wanted to get into reloading, but ran out of money. I just wanted to know if the trigger is better than the crap air gun trigger pull of the 10/22.

I would have to say, definitely. Way better than my old semi-auto .22 tube fed 14 round POS, and tons better than my old Daisy pellet rifle. I can't even shoot that thing anymore, its wore out. My first gun though, modded it, went full scope, added a grip to cock the barrel, defeated the safety on it, (so I could un-cock it), stuff like that. Supposed to do 650 FPS, but its lucky if it can even get the pellet out of the barrel these days. Still have it though. Just didn't see a point in mentioning it.

Also have a compound bow, adjustable from (I think) 35-90 lbs, but don't quote me, there are no markings, model, nothing. Bought it at a trader place for 20 bucks plus several arrows. All I know is, with it set about halfway (I think), it will rip arrows through 1" thick cedar planks...... They go completely through 2 square bales of straw pretty easily too. Almost scary to shoot. My brother can't even pull it back. lol

I haven't even considered cranking the lbs to maximum.... Its pretty badass where it is.
