Overheating?
I own a 1991 Beretta GT.
Recently I had my radiator and fan replaced due to an accident about 8 months ago and now less than a month ago I had my head gasket replaced, spark plugs changed, coolant cleaned out and re-added, and an my oil changed due to it being milky.
Now I have driven my car and saw that it overheated so I took it back into the shop and the guy said it was an electrical problem with the fan and fixed it the same day free of charge,
Now that I have been driving it I noticed a few things. Usually when I am driving on normal streets (city driving) it usually stays at 2/5 or at the highest the middle, rarely does it go above the middle on the temperature gauge and if it does it begins to cool down and in a few minutes it goes back to the middle or lower.
Now my real problem is when I am driving it in traffic. I have done so three times already. The first time it was heavy traffic and I had my air conditioning on and it got up to the 4/5 mark which is the last white mark. I turned off my A/C and turned on the heater and it began to drop to about halfway between the 4/5 mark and the middle mark.
The second time I drove it like 8 miles from home on the highway and it wa constant driving and it got up to the 4/5 mark. On the way back home it stayed in the middle and it went to the middle of the 4/5 and the middle mark before coming back down.
Today I drove it and it was great. Middle or less all the way and it got a bit above the middle mark before it came back down.
Now my question is this: Is this what I should expect? Does it seem to be getting to hot? I mean I payed a little more than a grand for the head gasket (it had to be taken into a machine shop because the heat warped it) and it does have a NEW radiator and a new fan. What should the ideal reading on the temperature gauge be?

Overheating?
could you have a bad temp sending unit?? could not have all the air bleed of of the cooling system?? check it with a scanner with data an see what temp it running at..

You could try replacing the thermostat; they're cheap enough for the assurance of ruling out a faulty one.
