One of my many jobs around here...
Not sure how many are aware of this, but not only do I work on computers for a living, I also do a few other things.
I'm a certified EMT-B volunteer/Driver.
I'm also a volunteer fire fighter, near the end of 6 months of training for fire fighter I & II classes. Actually my final exams/practicals are this weekend.
Today has been a busy day. You all remember my 1993 Dodge Grand Caravan LE?

Yes, that piece of turd..
Well, here are some pics to demonstrate what happens when you decide to donate a vehicle to the local fire department.....
First, you turn it over:

Then, it needs to be stabilized for safety, and you need to lay out your tools!

Next, you have to assess the victims, to see what the injuries are, and how they can be removed safely and without causing more harm.

We removed the windshield and folded down the front half of the roof to get the passengers out. (please note, this was all mock up using dummies, sorry no pics, most of this was movie clips)

Then we sit the vehicle back upright, so as to demonstrate more about how to use the tools to tear it apart.

Roof needs to be gone? Its gone. Took 5 minutes.

Take off the door? Sure no problem.

And this is what it looks like after we "roll" the dash forward. This allows us to remove victims trapped beneath/behind the dash, if there are front impacts, this can sometimes result.

And back on the trailer to go home.

It should be noted, that for environmental reasons, all fluids were drained, the battery and gas tank were removed, and many precautions were taken to do this. I basically worked on prepping and setting this up from 3 to 6:30, then from 7 to 9 we did all this, tonight. Bit tired. Enjoy the pics everyone, questions and comments welcome. I have more shots, just not at the moment.

I think you need to add that minivan to your list of cars to resurrect!
Many props to you for being involved with EMT and everything else you do to help people in need!

Most of Tiff's family are EMT volunteer types. Her old man sent me a pic of an 89 GT they were cutting up last year. He teaches all kinds of Emergency classes.

Yeah, it was good time, also good training.
In other news, I passed all of my FF I&II practicals Saturday. Just awaiting word for the written test, to see if I passed that. Once that is certain, then I will be officially a FireFighter I & II certified volunteer!

An update:
Got the word today, everyone that was in class from our dept passed all of the practical and written exams. So its official. I have completed all the learning requirements for Firefighter I & II. This also includes Hazmat training that I had to take separately, so certs for that. Not to mention having Wildfire training for when I was doing volunteer work for the MI DNR up here, so a cert for that from like 05'. Sheesh.
That reminds me, my EMT cert is up for renewal. I need to get that sent in... lol And one of these days I need to get my lights and siren installed on the van! Sure, with all that time I have.... lol
