W-bodies did come with 5spds, but they are very few and far between. There were those that had the 3.4 TDC engine with the HM-284, which is the more commonly known about 5spd W-bodies.
However, the 3.1/2.8 cars also got the 5spd, it's an HM-282 with the same 3.61 FDR that we got. Only real difference that I can remember is that the jackshaft is a little longer to accomodate the wider body, about 1" longer from what I remember. I think the case was slightly different to where the slave cylinder bolted to the case instead of a bracket coming off the upper trans mount area.
Chazz used a W-body 5spd in his 5spd swap. We had to find a shorter jackshaft to use because his was too long.
I had a 90 Grand Prix STE 3.1 5spd back in college... bought it from a long time Beretta owner/friend of mine.

Yeah, the trans mount brackets, slave cylinder, jackshaft and speedo sensor are different then the L-body 5spd. Pain to use for a swap. I also think the gearing is different. 1st and 2nd "feel" closer then or other factory V6 5spd Berettas I've driven.

Here is some info on it...Chazzman wrote:Yeah, the trans mount brackets, slave cylinder, jackshaft and speedo sensor are different then the L-body 5spd. Pain to use for a swap. I also think the gearing is different. 1st and 2nd "feel" closer then or other factory V6 5spd Berettas I've driven.
It's Rumored to have a different ratio... but you can check it yourself to see. If its true yours should be, 13.6 crank turns for every 1 on the axle vs 12.6, and 7.9 crank turns to 1 at the axle for 2nd vs 7.4
