A 1988 Chevrolet Beretta GT-V 6 is hard to start and stalls out.  When i do get it started the idle fluctuates.  When i get to a stop light/sign i have to tap accelerator or put it in neutral to keep it from stalling.  I have already had one diagnostic and had crankshaft sensor replaced and six new sparkplugs put in. Still the same and worse since it got down to 40's F.  I got another diagnostic done today and am awaiting part/s.  Any ideas.  I will let you know results when i get part/s replaced.                           tilleyev

Yeah- I would have to agree with 88GTU...
Has it given you a Service Engine Light? If so, reading the code will help pin-point what's going on. It sounds alot like a bad Throttle Position Sensor, but it could be a slew of other things--
how old are your coil packs?
Have you replaced your fuel filter?
If not, you probably have clogging injector(s)
Have you ever cleaned the throttle body?
Something as simple as a dirty air filter could cause some of this, too...
3 things for combustion to occur, all must be in the proper quantities... AIR, SPARK, FUEL.

The fuel injectors were just cleaned, 6 new sparkplugs, new oil/filter, new crankshaft sensor.  Coil packs and module have 29,000 miles on.  When i am a stop light/sign i pop it into neutral so i does not stall out.  No codes came up.  Now it is very hard to start and when it does it is very rough; but smoothes out once it is warmed up.

All good suggestions-----
plus ,don't forget to check vacuum lines .
-and even if you seem to rule out the tps-check the wireing to the tps-as a burnt wire insulataion in the wireing harness somewhere is not unheard of,and it happened to me a few years ago ,and each time the 2 bared wires touched the idle would go haywire and often shut the car down, once even causing the acclerator to floorboard on its own for a few miles .(thank heaven i was on the 4 lane.)

ETPS or Fuel related would be my guess.
Check the return/feed fuel lines for leakage.
Could be sucking too much air, or not building vacuum.

My red Beretta GT is running alot better. I was awaiting an MAF sensor- they got one in and it was a 4 pronger- mine is a five pronger. So I guess it is taking the slow boat from China. In the mean time I went to Harry's U-Pull-It and picked one up for under $15.00 and it ran slightly better. Today, I checked the codes with my cheapy $27.00 Trouble Code Scanner and came up with a 22 ; which is the TPS. You guys were right all along. Car runs better, but there is still a vacuum leak under the plenum on the driver side. That is for my next visit. Other plans in the near future is a 140 amp alternator. And for anybody into cryogenics; I had 6 Vitec Spark Plug Wires and 6 Champion Copper Plus Spark Plugs dipped in nitrogen. I might get the plugs gapped 0.010 wider and use copper indexing washers. I wonder whether I should get the alternator dipped in nitrogen or will that activate the flux capacitator and send my Beretta back in time. If i went back to 1979; gas was around $1.20 a gallon. Better use some old dollar bills and remove the current 2005 newspapers so no one will take notice. I could tell them my Beretta is a prototype. tilleyev

I thought you said you already had a diagnostic done and it showed nothing out of the ordinary. Sounds like whoever did it needs to get their equipment looked at...
