eureka clogged converter !

I had a strange and i had serched trough the posts to find some one with the same problem a screaming egr and rough running and sometimes stalling when at a light so here is my story . First i tried to replace the ignition module i imagined that i had bad sparks but no and then i went to try the TPS and .. no it did not work then suddenly i noticed a slight metallic noice from the cat. so yesterday i went hawoc on it i sawed it up and cleaned out the **** and welded it together again so now i am running without my cat. oooh i am baad.  it has newer run this good .

so my problem with the egr was that the exhausts was going backwards

That may have been my post, sounds like it took me a lot more time and money to come to the same conclusion.

My '90 3.1L ran like a champ after I hollowed mine out.  My gas mileage improved greatly as well, but the new plugs, wires, coils, filters, MAP, CPS and I don't remember what all else, may have had something to do with it as well.

Any way, the exhaust has a metallic "angry can of bees" sound to it now.  At first I didn't care, but now it is driving me crazy, so I am shopping for a high flow cat.

Good luck to you!

hey how did you hollow out the cat?  Just cut it open grind it out then weld it shut?  Or i was thinking maybe running a holesaw through the ends on a long shaft would work.
