need help

Post by 2.3racer »

I have a 91 Beretta GTZ with the 3.1. The car is very hard to start and when it does the moment you touch the gas it will stall, it doesn't rev above an idle, sometimes it won't start at all.

I thought it might be the fuel pump so I changed it with a knowned used one along with the fuel filter. This didn't help at all. To me it seems as if the car is running out of fuel.

What are the symptons of a bad fuel pressure regualtor?

thanks any help would be appriecated

Obvious number one. Check your fuel pressure. You need a tester, there should be a fitting on the fuel rail, it will look like a place to use a tire pressure gauge, but do NOT use that, you need a fuel pressure tester, you can rent one from nearly any auto parts place these days.

This will tell you if you have the correct amount of pressure. Should be between 30-45lbs, I think for our cars. If this is low, then its either a fuel pump, filter, clogged line, bad regulator, etc. You need to turn the key to "on" but not start the car. Do this a few times, each time wait for the pump to stop running. If the pump stops running after the first or second time you turn the key to "on", good. That means the pressure has built up to the regulator setting. At this point check the pressure.

If it keeps running for a short period each time you do this, then you have an issue as stated with one of the above...

Good luck.
