2.8 Performance ideas
2.8 Performance ideas
I wanted to know what kinds of things I could do to this engine (2.8 ) to make it better OTHER than a swap.

cold air intake and exhaust are pretty much it for simple, inexpensive upgrades. nitrous is about your best option for power. dont let people tell you otherwise, i've been running it for years and never had any issues as long as your running a small wet shot

Well you can get ported intakes. Not much of a gain there but it's something. You can do a top end swap, but there is alot to get for the swap and not much of a gain on that.

Boost it or juice it. If you are auto, you might want to think about a trans upgrade. Anything over 230ish whp is not going to keep a 3 speed functioning unless you dump ton of cash into it... then your limit is 300 whp, but for what you'd have into that trans at that point you could have went 3x00 and 5 speed or bought the beretta that'd have all those features done.

Guess you can't get ported intakes anymore. I don't see them listed on WOT-Tech. You can still get a chip there.

Spray it. Best 300 bucks you could possibly spend for instant 50+ hp

The last set to be listed on WOT-Tech, $100 plus shipping. No core. I think most people swap or leave it stock any more. My last set is missing the plug on both ends of the lower intake, but you have those already in the stock lower.

Re: 2.8 Performance ideas
I asked this very same question many years ago.lol
I wouldn't spray a motor thats over 20 years old.
But thats just me.Doing a 3400/3500 swap is just better in alot of ways. The power is always there and more performance parts.
Just to name a few.But it's your car=)

If you want the most bang for your buck, the 3x00 swap is the way to go.
If you really want to stick with the 2.8, find a 3.1 and go to 60degreev6.com and search away. Superdave was a huge help to me. Some of the things that i found you can do without getting into any porting are the cam (several choices), thinner rwd 3.1 head gaskets to raise compression ratios, and the 94/95 rocker arms from a 3100 have the same mounting as the 2.8/3.1 but are a 1.6:1 ratio rocker instead of the 1.52:1.

Re: 2.8 Performance ideas
I was thinking that for the same amount of money I could just swap to a 3400 and modify that. Thank you for all the advice. Now the research begins......Just one last question. Is it possible to do a turbocharged 3400/3500 hybrid?
