Starts and Idles Rough

Post by Trevor »

Every morning when I start my car it sounds horrible. The car shakes, there is knocking coming from under the hood, and the exhaust rattles. I notice if I have my door open that the lights flicker. I know exactly why the exhaust rattles, it's completely shot, but i don't know where all the knocking is coming from. It doesn't sound like its coming from the engine, but up above it, by the O2 Sensor... If you have an idea of the problem let me know... Thnx

Sounds to me like its misfiring..... Not running on all cylinders in other words.

I hope to god the spark plug I had heli coiled didn't come out... I'll check that when I get home. But It doesn't pop loudly like it did when the spark plug flew out before

It's the big cylinder thing on the throttle body. Do not forget to clean the port and oil the O-ring before you put the new one on. Use some carb or TB cleaner on a paper towel and then use Q-tips to reach all the way to the back.
keep'em flying!

I took it off, and I noticed the O ring wasn't in the correct position... it was halfway down and at an angle. I pulled it to where it should be, put it back in place, started the car, and it finally didn't idle so roughly!. It was steady!!!!!

I think I can cross that off the list for now...

Next on the Agenda:
New Catalytic Converter
New Muffler
New Tires
New Motor Mounts! :P

Thankyou for the help, I really appreciate it.
