if you are thinking about it, give the car a good look over and look for repair documents/proof of upkeep... really depending on how much you are trying to get out of your quad.

they are high maintenance with high mileage and expensive to dig up parts (hard to find used now), and typical rust/rot issues that pertain to all GM cars of the day and age.

he said no rust. it has 140k miles. its his dd for work about 80 miles RT. my 4 wheeler is only worth 1200 in fair condition which it is. i looked up the BB on the lumina and its about the same. he said it had a new brake booster and master cylinder and rear brakes. its also a 5 speed. i like that. he said the only thing wrong with it is that the transmission bushing or something is messed up and its hard to get into 5th sometimes. idk.

might be worth a look if you can get the car for that trade/price. just dont trust other people's word, go look for rust yourself... there is likely to be at least some there... (or no metal left in some cases... rocker panels)

Even though HE SAYS "no rust" doesn't mean it's rust free! I found that out first hand when I got my Z26.
Get it up on a lift before you make a deal, don't make the same mistake I did. Before I bought it I checked the rockers, and rear strut towers, but I did not check the rear sub frame.
I bought it, and then checked it about a week later, it's got some minor surface rust back there, nothing too major, but the seller told me it was completely clean underneath, and it still had undercoating on it. I took his word, and well lets just say he was a little less than honest. Sure there is still SOME under coating present, but not much, and it's obviously not 100% rust free.
There are allot of BS'ers out there, so just do your self a favor, and thoroughly look it over first. Not saying he is lying or anything, and not trying to deter you from making a deal.
It's a pretty rare car and I think it'd be a nice pick up if it is indeed clean.
What color is it?

Those Z34s are fun cars. I test drove one with a 5spd some time ago...Maintenance is the key though.

Aren't the 3.4 DOHCs the ones with the stupid long timing belt?

^^ I think the 284's are set up for higher RPM shifts, so maybe synchro differences?

I'd check that the timing belt's been replaced recently, then. All the timing belts I've seen have 60-70k mile life so it's probably due for another one now, if not sooner.
