turbo 3400?
I have a 3400 sitting around, i'm looking for another beretta to put it in. i've been thinkning about what to do with it: Turbo destroked 3400. any suggestions? first of all, has anyone turbo'd a 3400? what can it take as far as boost? any pointers would be great!
I'm kinda the junkyard type... what car should i look for that would have an appropriate turbo for the 3400?

turbo 3400?
I suggest you search and browse around on v6z24.com and the other boards. 9psi on a stock 3400 makes daaaaarn good numbers. V6z24 they do a lot of 3400 swaps and lots of them are turbo'ed. 9psi is about the tops I'd go on a stock 3400 piston. The piston is the main weak point.
No need to destroke a 3400 to a 3.1l big bore/short stroke with the 2.8 crank unless you want a high reving motor, but the 5speed won't shift well at really high rpms anyways. It would be cool, but for the time and money, a stock 3400 with some boost is still the best bang/buck.

yeah, i was just thinking that a 3400 turbo would be cool, but a high reving turbo motor is even sweeter. the main reason would be to attain a higher top speed since the 1989 manual trans is kinda geared low.
Just for curiosity's sake what kinda numbers would we be looking at? I'm thinking of getting a cam for it too.

turbo 3400?
first of all, like Isacc said, DO NOT THINK about destroking a 3400. You run into problems above 6500rpm with valve float. Theres no sense in doing it. A properly running and tuned 3400 turbo can make 300+ hp. A larger cam is also not that great of an idea with a turbo. Overlap isnt a very good thing on a turbo motor.

turbo 3400?
So do i want to stick with the original cam? or are there some cam specs someone has for a turbo'ed 3400? If i'm going to get a cam i want to do it now since the engine is sitting on a table. I hate pulling motors to do simple things.  also should i have the heads ported and polished along with the intake, or isn't that too critical on a turbo motor?
what would be recomended for pistons? I want to run street gas, how much boost can i run on street gas? should i just leave the pistons and stick to 9 Psi?

Wicked-IROCZ, what are you running for boost on the 3100?
did you buy a new turbo or is it off of something? if so, what?

leave the motor 100% stock depending on how many miles are on it.  If it needs a rebuild get some forged pistons preferably in the 9.2-9.5:1 compression range.  This will give you some more reliability.
The first thing you should learn is how to tune and buy the equipment esspecially on an OBD I car.

turbo 3400?
One thing Im not sure if you understand is the turbo is the heart of the system but you still need to fab atleast a crossover, downpipe, and some type of block off for the rear manifold. You also need oil lines, an intake, and a compressor to throttle body connection. You then need to upgrade your injectors and tune it all.
My turbo was spec'd out by me and then I had it built for me because I do not have the tools required to balance a turbo centersection. Like I was saying above though, you need a lot more than a turbo and I built everything else because you cannot buy it.

turbo 3400?
I know, i was just going to ask where the best place would be to tap into the oil for the turbo. I understand that there is alot to it. i already have the OBD1 Tuning software and hardware minus the blank PROMs.
the biggest thing for me is to make up a turbo exhaust manifold and downpipe. I need to get a turbo first to make the flange where the turbo bolts onto the manifold.
Where can i get larger injectors?

turbo 3400?
I am doing a car that is 91 with OBDII. It has a 2.2L in it now.  I have a 2002 3.4L.  I have to change over the OBD and after I install the 3.4 I plan on doin a turbo.  I have been looking online for about a year for turbos, but if I were you I would by a book called "Maximum boost" That talks all about turbos.

Well, your a step ahead then. Good job.
As far as injectors, do not buy accel injectors. Ford racing injectors have been the most reliable but either factory gm or holley have worked well also.
You can get injectors from another car or you can buy them new from autoparts stores, jegs, summit racing, ebay, or many other places.
You can tap for oil at the oil pressure sending unit.
I cant really think of too many cars at the junkyard that would have an appropriate turbo. You might want to get the specs for a GNX or Sy/Ty turbo just to see how close they might be. I dont know the specs for those two turbos off the top of my head.

with the gearing on the V6 trans is ideal when you have the power to back it up. its basicly perfect!
with a stock 3400 and around 10psi your looking at just shy of 300 HP or better. get better valve springs to get the most RPM out of the 3400. it wants to rev to 6200 no problem, but with boost you won't get anything after 5500 due to valve float.
to tap into the oil pan here is a pic.

Hmm, thats interesting. I didn't think of using the oil pressure sending unit.
I guess i don't know what you mean about the injectors, what cars have the required ones?
and with the valve springs I have a set of LS1 valve springs to take care of that.

size injectors depend on how much HP you plan on running. 36# will be alittle more than enough. i know a few with 30#. infact more with 30# than 36#.
buy arfter martket injectors or used ones. GTP injecotrs are 36.6. this is what im using. i found they are alittle shorter than the 3400s, but so far they have not poped out. i got 6 GTP injectors for 45 bucks. GTP guys upgrade them and you can get them for cheap.
