Failed attempt at installing brakes :(
This is most likely the last I buy brakes online.... They look like brakes for a Z24....dont work on a 1990 GTZ

And I wonder how the GTZ rims will look on my red Z24

Re: Failed attempt at installing brakes :(
Yeah as Barry said... in 92 the Beretta and Cavalier got the larger diameter rotors, prior to that they had a smaller diameter and slightly thicker rotor with also different pads... I wouldn't blame this on buying online, but more of not knowing the fitment difference for years, never buy anything that says it fits 88-96 beretta's, it has to be 88-91 and 92-96
Re: Failed attempt at installing brakes :(
The other option would be to swap the calipers? lol Let me guess that won't work either though.

Re: Failed attempt at installing brakes :(
You'd have to swap calipers and knuckles and yes that is actually a good upgrade for 91 and older cars.

Re: Failed attempt at installing brakes :(
I've said this many times, and I'll say it again:
I think 92+ stuff is a downgrade, as you get thinner rotors that do not cool as effectively, there is minimal gain on disc size, but the pads don't even touch that area. (However, there is quite a tolerance in these products with different manufacturers)
If you are looking for performance, both setups are completely useless with anything more than daily grocery getting, so I simply cannot see any reason to swap to 92+ stuff unless you had like brand new everything for it drop out from sky.
I've driven many Berettas over the years, and best results with stock brakes I've had with the older style brakes. I think people that think otherwise had stuck calipers (etc), and the improvement from the swap they feel was actually from new rotors and pads over the old worn ones.
.
I keep rocking 87-91 rotors on my 92+ cars & calipers for better results (mostly less pedal travel).
Ps, Actual upgrade rotor for stock caliper setup would have 87-91 thickness and 92-96 diameter, those drilled holes and stuff are pointless in setup like this.

Re: Failed attempt at installing brakes :(
Weba, I disagree.
My 90 GTZ had worn out brakes when I got it. I did a full brake job (front and rear) and it stopped much better. However, when I got my 95Z...its old brakes stopped much better than the GTZ's new brakes...even though the Z26 was several hundred pounds heavier.
I have 92+ on my 91 and they work well. They will warp if you overheat them...so don't overheat them.

Re: Failed attempt at installing brakes :(
Unless someone does an actual test comparing the two setups using all new parts of the same brand, using the same tires, and using the same drivers, in the same conditions, it will all be speculation.
And by test I mean a 60-0 test like they do in car magazines. Which I doubt anyone has that equipment lying around their garage.

We can always do a brake test in TC this year, may not be all even, but we could see who stops the fastest! lol
Yeah! The hell with doing drag racing, lets do drag braking! *snicker
