deleting old postings?

All craigslist, eBay, etc sale threads go here if you ARE NOT the seller

deleting old postings?

Post by Money pit Beretta »

Is there a way to get rid of postings that are sold?

I think the forum needs an expiration scheme, after so many days or months it can clear the old threads. I know they wanted to keep previous sale threads as a record in case of issues later, but outside of that, I don't see the need for them to stay a long time either. Up to the bosses though, doesn't matter to me either way.

I agree, but for those that don't sell the limit could end in a car sent to the junkers. There is alot of them that are no longer useful and should be purged. That would save space and (for those that are looking) keep a more up to date guide to finding the right car.
Ace and I are both here everyday and I'm sure we would both be happy to moderate that area of the board. With a limit of control that is. No need to give the moderators on this forum more work. They do enough.

Put it to a vote if you have to.
Still I would vote 1. ACE and 2. me as a back up.
Is this important? No, but it should be done.

lol

I appreciate the vote of confidence. I had been put in hat for this before on FB a while back when the new sale rules went into effect, and I said then I would be more than happy to help that out and nothing happened, but no biggie.

Like I said then, I would help those that might need it in getting their sale posts to look nice and keep the forum there clean and functional. Pretty simple really.

Most people simply edit the post title to read: SOLD. Some even ask the Mods to delete them.

The thing is, as they get older and older, they will fall to the bottom of the pages(s). So the new for sale threads with action will always be at the front of the line. This solves your "hunting for items" issue already.

However I can agree that if we put a limit of say 6 months or less on a for sale thread it would save some bandwidth. Other than that, I don't see the point/need to delete old threads.

And as for the Moderation of this forum, if either of you want to do it, just ask a mod. Posting here wont get much done.

I see some cars go in a week and others take months. So to me any car that is sold should be taken off. Case in point the last one on here is from 11/01/11.

As per the for sale rules history of the sale has to remain. It does not take up as much space as you would think.

I may ask Will to allow some more users to "moderate" certain sections so its less for us to do... I don't have time to look over every for sale thread and make sure they fit the rules.

I was going to say, it's not as easy as saying "I nominate him to be a mod", you need to well, actually speak to the current mods. They are the ones that have all of the power! Have a conversation with the source if you want to get to the source.

Jon, I have offered my Moderation abilities in the past and that still stands. I would be happy to look over the for sale/ wanted/third party forums, and more.

You have my vote too. Do to your posts in this topic and your new topic.
And I thought this was a better way of talking to the mods, other than bug them with PM's. If they felt an need to reply to this topic they could. I feel that a PM to a Mod has to be replied to.

Oh and Styluss as a new Mod you should get a PM from me asking to clean up the third party sales area(lol). Really, just joking.

I disagree with half that... lol, us mods have very little power... The most we can do is edit/delete posts ban users, warn users and that's about where it stops... Everything moderation team wise has to be done by Will.
