4.9L OHV Cadillac V8 swap, will it fit?
Will a 4.9L OHV (not northstar) Cadillac V8 fit into our engine bays?
I know it will bolt right up to our trans, and it was made for my 4T60-E actually. It's aluminum block with iron heads, so I don't think the weight will be much more from the 3100 that's in there right now. Maybe even less. Only 200hp, but some exhaust, P&P work, and then maybe throw on a turbo or CSC for more power.
IIRC it uses the same firing order as a SBC, so it would sound pretty bad-*** with the exhaust nice and loud. It would be a lot different from all the other usual swaps.
Actually a 5speed would be a pretty sweet setup, save some weight and you can say you have a MT V8 beretta. But if you already have the 4T60-E, you don't have to worry about it not being able to take the power...

But before we get too carried away with this, will it even fit?

I would say yes. i was tihnking about this for my 93 auto. the thing is with the 91 and older berettas the mount might pose a problem. but i don't know what all is needed, so i think taking the whole ECU and wiring harness is a must. a higher flow fule pump. and expect to possibly cut some of the frame or something if it doesn't fit.. but it should work. you will get a nice V8 tone too...ahhhhhhh but i asked my self do these engines hold up well to abuse?? there are not many around.. it was a though of mine about 6 months ago, i decided i rather go with a 3400 for my 93, when the time comes. much easier.

Doesn't a 3400 make that much power?

I considered the same idea but N*4.6/4.0 or 4.9, aftermarket is about the same as the 2.8/3.1 and maintence not worth the price.
Got to love a V8!

It makes a lot of torque is relatively light weight, and has the same firing order as a 350 and bolts to the same bellhousing. Good for a cheap swap into a Fiero, Lumina, a body, Beretta might be a bit much.

Might as well go with a V6 if your only making 200hp. Or a N*:

Well just for the V8 sound would be the main point. A power adder and carefull tune would be required for decent power.

FI, your best bet would be a remote mounted turbo for that. I would think you would be out of room with the 4.9L. but the Q still remains how much can that engine take as a beating. and making your own headers would be fun..
but those engines just suck to work on. I hate them

They may be crappy, but V8 is so alluring even if it's 200hp too.
Perhaps it can be stripped of all it's useless junk, ran with an aftermarket computer and other parts like a frankestien motor? I believe camaro TPI injectors fit it and work like stock...
If I end up with the car/motor for free I might do something with it.. I'd have the trans/motor/computer. I wonder what the gearing is in that seville's 4T60-e... Maybe I'd just steal the transmision lol!
Oh well not a serious idea just something that could happen..... It's fun to toy around with possibilities...

It is fun to let the gears free wheel. It is when my best ideas come about.
I think the torque in the 4.9 was 260ish or more. The broad torque delivery and tall stock gear in the much lighter Beretta would make a nice setup even on the street.

I would say that this engine would not fit. Many people sit and go "oh, it fits a Fiero" or what not, but nearly everyone forgets what is a major difference between the amount of useable room. You do not have to contend for space in the rear of the Fiero as you do in a Beretta.
I can not remember off hand, but I thought the V8 "Feretta" (or was that the twin turbo) but whatever was extended mainly due to the space needed away from steering components and the corners were raised to contend with the height of the engine.
Even if you do find a way to fit it in the engine bay, what happens if you need to change the water pump or an alternator or any part that would be typically found on the sides? Gunna remove the engine to get to parts that would be along the sides?
I know for sure that even just the swap over to the 3400 will make a stock GTZ quad look like a '95 V6 Mustang (tried to be a little more realistic and still make a point)

The 4.9 will fit...this is not based on semantics...IT WILL FIT!! Now how work will be done on the engine is basically based on how the engine was/is installed. Regardless this is a very potent STREET engine in a beretta, (as already mentioned) of course with the right suspension.
