Stupid tire pressure question..
Stupid tire pressure question..
Okay, so my drivers side front tires max press. is 55psi, and my passanger is 44psi. I put them both at ~45psi, is that what should be done? The tires are the same tread style and depth. they are performance 205/40/r17's.
Re: Stupid tire pressure question..
can't believe they are the same tire with two different pressures.....but anyway, at those pressures it will be a rough ride, but possibly be better mileage. Most pressures are around 32 to 36,38 lbs.
90 INDY, '10 SS, 96 C4 CE (86,600 mi. on the Indy, 2nd at super chevy show, 02, 03,1st in 01, 04, 05, 06, 07,08 !! sadly sold)
Re: Stupid tire pressure question..
Different tire brand, same tread. Weird I know lol
So its okay just putting them both at 45? I don't care about ride quality, just handling and performance.

Re: Stupid tire pressure question..
You really should follow the pressure recommended my GM. All tires vary. But I like mine a little harder too
Re: Stupid tire pressure question..
You talking about the tire pressure sticker on the car? I'm running 205/40/r17's (The rubber on these tires is really hard), so GM recommended tire pressure probably don't apply.
I always run max pressure though, I prefer handling and performance over ride quality. Though I think a 60's pickup truck might have a smoother ride lol

Re: Stupid tire pressure question..
Wow... you guys are crazy.
I run 34-35 psi in my tires for daily use. I won't step up to anything close to 40+ unless I'm autocrossing or running a road course day.
The max pressure rating on the side of the tires is just for getting the bead to set. It's not a recommendation for daily usage...

Re: Stupid tire pressure question..
IDK if mine has aftermarket suspension or if the GTU suspension is that good or if its because I run max pressure/the tires and rims I'm running. But I can literally take L turns (is that the rights word for it?) at 45+ MPH without it squealing the tires or really leaning at all, its awesome. Not that I do it all the time or push it too hard cause I don't want to gently caress my car up.

And why the hell are you rocking two different tires as such? I understand that they may be the same size, but being from two different companies, well...

Re: Stupid tire pressure question..
Because they were better tread than the ones I'm running on the rear (the rear two are the same) and I didn't notice until they were on the car because the tread style/pattern is pretty much identical. I'll be switching a set of tires all the same brand on it pretty soon though.Styluss wrote:And why the hell are you rocking two different tires as such? Re: Stupid tire pressure question..
If I run less I start to get wear on the sidewalls. Ran them at 40 for the past two years with no issue.

Re: Stupid tire pressure question..
Thats another good reason not to run them low, my front snow tires are warn on the sides too because they were ran too low this "winter"snowblindburd wrote:If I run less I start to get wear on the sidewalls. Ran them at 40 for the past two years with no issue.
I think I'm gonna put 215/50(or 45, don't remember off the top of my head what they are)/r17s on the rear and run the other matching 205/40/r17s on the front.

Re: Stupid tire pressure question..
I've ran 215/45/17s on my car for 10 years now. With aftermarket suspension for 8 of those years now.
Tire brand has a lot to do with it on the wear part of it. I've always ran Toyo, Yokohama or Falken and I've never had a problem with lower psi causing wear.
A 205/40 is a couple sizes too small. That's good for a Civic compared to stock size, but short on a Beretta. You're putting more miles on the odometer than you're actually driving if you want a different way to think about it.

Yeah, the 205/40's look small on the back but look fine on the front. No scraping or anything like that with 215/45's on the front?KFLO 93 GT wrote:I've ran 215/45/17s on my car for 10 years now. With aftermarket suspension for 8 of those years now.

I know the previous owners ran the same size tires on the car for a while. I wonder how many miles my car actually has then.

Re: Stupid tire pressure question..
The difference isn't much, I bet the odometer is within a percent or 2 of being on.
No rub at all with 215-45-17s up front on my car, and I put it through its paces. Baims 91 base is running 225/45-17s all around on his car, which is lower than mine and it has no rub either.
