Re: The trip into the "big leagues"
Looking good! I think that if your wheels were facing the other way you would get more air on those huge rotors(lol).

Re: The trip into the "big leagues"
Yes I know the rotor is backwards.. it was the top one in the box and used it mostly just to see what the brakes would look like behind the wheels. They will be on the right way when the axles are ready to be put on and everything gets installed how it shouldMoney pit Beretta wrote:Looking good! Are your brackets for the calipers also backwards? From the pics of heavywoody and 3X00-Modified write ups, they have their calipers on the back. Or did i miss the reason of why you changed them to the front?SummitBalt08 wrote:Yes I know the rotor is backwards.. it was the top one in the box and used it mostly just to see what the brakes would look like behind the wheels. I had both Grand Am spindles powdercoated.. at the time that I got them back from Alex after he got done coating them Tylers red Beretta was in the garage with my Z. He put some of my powdercoated parts in the trunk and back seat of his red Beretta so they wouldnt get scratched or anything until we installed them. He thought he had all the parts out but accidentally left one of the spindles in his car when he took it to get the exhaust done for his turbo 3500 build.93 3.1L wrote:Are your brackets for the calipers also backwards? So we just used the one to bolt up to see how it would look. I think the calipers would look better on the front like that but dont think its possible to leave them like that

Re: The trip into the "big leagues"
It shouldn't matter which side they go on; it's all a preference.
I will say this: The caliper won't "catch" any air like it would if it was on the back (think of a parachute). But I'm not certain that matters.
If you had the FE7 front swaybar, I'd leave the calipers on the front to allow for clearance of the endlinks around the brake line.

Re: The trip into the "big leagues"
Yes, front would be fine...that's how the pre-92s were right from the factory. And I put my 92+ setup on the trailing end even with the FE7 bar without interference issues. So your options are open.
FWIW, I doubt a caliper loaded with pads resting on a rotor would cause extra drag anyway...especially with the turbulence in the air from the wheel spokes spinning. Maybe it would be a factor at 250mph? haha

Re: The trip into the
Ok i got you and since it can be done both ways, its up to you to decide where you want them. I personally think they look better in the back when you have the neon rears buts its your ride. When i do mine here in a few months ill be putting them in the back to have them in the same location as my rear neons.I had both Grand Am spindles powdercoated.. at the time that I got them back from Alex after he got done coating them Tylers red Beretta was in the garage with my Z. Re: The trip into the "big leagues"
I got a quote back from RCV Performance.
They said if they find its the same axles the V6Z24 guy ordered so they have no engineering in them, price is 275 per axle shaft.
Otherwise 325.
Thing that sucks is I was having a bad day yesterday and was a moron.. that got me a 140 dollar speeding ticket in the Malibu..whoops..
I am going to think on it a day or so.. I will get them sooner or later just whether I should get caught up from everything else first.

Re: The trip into the "big leagues"
That is a great price. Do they give any kind of rating on the power they will hold?
My DSS ones were $800 and I have another $200+ in fixing them.

Re: The trip into the "big leagues"
The plan is to ship them the G6 axles I have so they have the right splines and stuff..
I sent them another email asking if I get complete axles ready to be put in for that price and what kind of warranty they have.
As soon as I hear back from them, I will hopefully be shipping out the G6 axles tomorrow.. then they told me before that its about a week turnaround to get my axles done

Ouch. I'm glad the factory Cobalt axles worked on my GTU (even with the mod I had to do to the one side) -but I do wish I had better brakes, like yours. Oh well, we can't have it all, can we?

Re: The trip into the "big leagues"
I got another email back.. They said another 50 per axle to clean them up and swap CV's which is more than fair in my book so they are ready to install once I get them

The joke was about brake cooling. Sure looks like those wheels would move air any way that they are mounted.SummitBalt08 wrote:Yes I know the rotor is backwards.. it was the top one in the box and used it mostly just to see what the brakes would look like behind the wheels.
