Anyone with DAYTONA rear disk brakes?
Anyone with DAYTONA rear disk brakes?
I have my setup with daytona brackets and nonvented rotors and i have neon claipers, rotors, pads, shoes and hardware and i attempted to use the beretta parking brake cables and they seem to be to short.
Does anyone know why they are to short?
Or what cables i have to use?

yeah most guys either use the 3rd gen j body cables, or the neon cables. for some reason only our cars come up a few inches too short.
most just zip-tie them out of the way.. lol. me, id never drive without em. so just hit the yard or the dealor and get the different cables. part numbers are on the rear disc swap thread i believe

When i look for neon brake cables on rockauto they dont seem to be the same as the beretta ones, the beretta cables as you probably know are 3 pieces, on rockauto the only neon cables they have seem to be one piece
The one beretta line has the all-thread on it for the equilizer and the cavi/neon cables dont

This is actually a good question as these are the brackets i have for my car and i can see that the ebrake cables on my car will be too short too

Ok one question... Why bother using the daytona brackets if your not even going to use the larger vented rotors?
If you ask me (yes personal opinion) I do NOT like where the caliper gets placed visually when using these brackets.

Re: Anyone with DAYTONA rear disk brakes?
I only used them because i was on the search for rear disk brake brackets for months because i never get time off of work to go to the yard and its a PITA in the winter anyway and the rear daytona brackets showed up cheep, so i bought em, my fix sould work if i still have enough adjustment.

Neon cables are the best route to go with the brackets, And 3x00 the vented rotors brackets are hard to find and are lucky to get them cheap if you find them at a yard

And if the neon cables are too long you can just adjust the lenght inside the car by moving the bracket you gotta fab forward or backwards ill send you a e brake adjuster if you decide to go with the neon cable setup

I have a set of the Daytona vented rear brakes. Im wondering if i will have to use the neon cables too, or if there is something i can to to make the 90 ebrake cables work?

My exact point... Why use the hard to find Vented brackets if the person is going to use the non vented rotors and calipers... I would assume that it would be much easier to find the brackets for the neon if you intend to use just the Neon parts.Alpinestar10 wrote:And 3x00 the vented rotors brackets are hard to find and are lucky to get them cheap if you find them at a yard
I called up a JY from car-part.com that had calipers listed and asked for the whole bracket and had them shipped to me. If I had just been searching at local JY's I would have probably never found them.
To answer the question Geoff, Yes you'll have to use either aftermarket cables, or the Neon ones and then do what the J-body guys did, Run the cables inside, mount them and then build your own custom balancer. Unfortunately with the Daytona brackets the inlet for the cable is not at an angle like the Neon ones are or you do as slinky did and physically move the inner mounting point on the axle to make the cable longer, once again taking into consideration that you'll end up with a long enough balancer in the middle.

Re: Anyone with DAYTONA rear disk brakes?
Nono the brackets are different between the vented and non vented setup the vented rotor brackets have a 15 stamped on them and the non vented ones have a 14 on them meaning the lowest tire they can clear the vented rotor brackets have a longer neck for the caliper the non vented ones are pretty much exactlly like the neon and all parts are swapable between the solid rotor daytona and neon brackets. And make sure when you get your brackets from the yard your ordered them from they have a 15 stamped on them. Im not exactlly sure if the beretta cables are different from the cavalier but what some of use do is cut the loop off the cable and use the stock cables with neon brackets, and is your balancer for the cables welded onto the axle? Maybe thats why the cavalier guys have better luck with the stock cables i dont think ous are welded onto the axle but just a adjuster

I stayed away from daytona stuff because of all this confusion. I have 100% factory ebrake cables and don't have any issues.

Re: Anyone with DAYTONA rear disk brakes?
Well yeah i like the neon brackets cause they seem a little simpler to work with but the daytona bracket i like even more its beefier and no need for a backing plate like the neon, I really dont get why his cables are not working maybe the wrong side cable?
Re: Anyone with DAYTONA rear disk brakes?
they were about 2" to short per side, and they were brand new cables, anyway to fix the problem i welded new brackets for them to hook into 2" closer to each disk bracket, they fit i just hope i still have enough adjustment
