1990 (1st design) Timing Chain question(s)

first off, is the timing chain gasket set on a 1990 beretta gtz quad four h/o a 19 or 20 hole design?

secondly, are the other components that need to be replaced the:
- 3 plastic guides
- water pump (needs to be replaced)
- Cam, Crank, Chain; Includes 2 Cam Sprockets (1st Design; Has 2 Rows Of Teeth)
- timing chain tensioner

is there anything im missing?

I believe the first design might be 20 and 2nd 19, I just had the parts store order both in and I compared mine to the two new ones

Sounds like everything though. If you are doing the repair MAKE SURE your timing marks are dead on. Also once you get it together, turn the engine over by hand a couple full rotations to make sure you don't have any valve to piston issues. Its very easy though, I used two allen wrenches to hold the cam gears in place while installing the chain

The correct gasket should be the thicker of the two. I can't remember exactly now damnit, petty sure its the 20 hole. Best bet is to count then buy. I'll look for sure when I get home.

It's 20, go ahead and order. (I have a GM first design gasket set in my garage, I opened it to verify)

1st design is 20 hole, 2nd design 21 hole (including dowel pin holes).

You don't absolutely have to replace the cam and crank gears unless they're worn. Same with the guides, they're pretty hardy.

What generally needs replacement is the chain and sometimes the tensioner.

Here's the installation sequence. I use a couple bolts from my steering wheel puller kit to hold the cams in place.

22 hole? It's 19 isn't it? I thought the Twin Cam was 22. I could be wrong.

And i think he's replacing the gears because this is the second times he's had to have the engine opened up lol.

The TC on a quad is a bugger the first time, after that its a snap. Have your mechanic dial in 4 degrees of advance on the intake side. LOL

Typo, I meant to say 21 hole. That's including the dowel pin holes, so yes, 19 hole. Sorry for the confusion.
