a/c compressor
Hey guys my a/c compressor has gone bad and loud as hell. I cant put a new one in right now so i found a a/c bypass pulley, but I was looking and there are 2 belts for my 91 3.1. a/c and non a/c. the non ac ne is shorter I think, does anyone know if non a/c cars had a pulley or no pulley and just a shorter belt? Im wondering if i could just go with the non a/c belt instead of putting the pulley in or removing teh compressor, untill I have time to? Thanks for any help!

You'd have to test fit...
I'm installing a AC bypass pulley on the motor I'm building for Robert and I don't know yet if the belt has to be any shorter. I'm not sure what they did from the factory to not include AC, if they used the same bypass setups and still needed a shorter belt or if it was something else they did.
The difference listed online is 9 inches, and I can't see that working with the setup I just put on... The pulley I added pretty much simulates the AC being there.
This is a 3100 belt routing diagram, 94+ all came with AC standard...

93 and older still had an option, you'd have to find one in a yard without AC to check if pulleys are different sizes, I cant find older diagrams that look right, they should be the same as the 3100 for the most part since the PS and WP didn't change position but I'm not sure what they did where the AC was to keep enough contact on the WP pulley... they would have had to add some sort of idler just below the WP.

Found it!

Pulley is PN#10044867 from GM, or a Non AC car.

Just note with the O'reilly's pulley you will not be getting the shorter belt, that functions the same way the one does for the 94+ cars and simulates an AC compressor still being installed.
That is actually the pulley I should have got for Roberts 89, Maybe I'll see how quick advance auto can get this for me. It will eliminate the need for me to fabricate the motor mount holder and re-use his old AC bracket. And possibly clear the lower radiator hose better.

I might not need that belt. eyeing up the pullys it looks like its the same size. I finally tore the compressor out tonight. Have to wait to install the pulley as the mount doesnt have threaded holes need to go get some new nuts and bolts

Yeah I just found that out, I installed the same pulley on Roberts 3400. And no you don't need a shorter belt I already said that above. If you had got the factory bypass setup then yes you would need a shorter belt.

Re: a/c compressor
Well I got the compressor out after screwing with it wed only to find the pulley set up didnt have threads where it mounts, so car sat and finally today went and got some nuts and bolts to finish it.
