Re: It's Geetee; and I have a GTU and a 3400 engine

Post by LOLVTEC »

Ok so I'm Pretty much ready to order all my parts I'm just wanting to know for sure aboutthe coolant hoses... From all the 3400 swap sights I researched (v6z24 and domesticcrew) they said to use a 99 Montana lower radiator hose, as my upper, and use a early 90's cavy lower as my lower... Sound about right?

The only other thing I wanna know about is that radiator in eBay that I listed up there, anyone have any idea about that brand?

I've decided to skip the fidanza and flexalite fan as I don't really need those that bad right now... I will be back into this motor eventually anyWay. I got my loan from bank today so this project and the gtz are on their way!

How did Jon end up doing your fuel lines? That's about the only thing I need help on I think, everything else is pretty straight forward. Have any pics?

I used a 95 radiator with 95 hoses in my 91 with the 3400 and it works like factory. If you're buying a radiator anyway that's another option to consider.

Why?

I did, no issues other than it was designed for a later year, (mid point upper, not top upper) but I corrected that with a different upper hose. And it only cost me about 60 bucks shipped! Even came with the adapters for the auto and everything, fasteners, etc. Best part was it arrived not broken! HA. I had issues with RockAuto, took them 3 tries to ship me a radiator for the van that wasn't busted!

I would just shop carefully, the seller I bought it from was selling the Eagle brand. (supposedly USA but we all know better)

Just my two cents. As for the upper and lower hoses, just use what was stock! Hell of a lot easier to deal with. Not sure why that manual would suggest those sorts of changes when its not needed, unless that swap was for a different application.

Ace, he can't use whats stock since its not a 3100 equipped car... if he was to replace the radiator with a 94+ one then yes he could do that but I don't know of other issues would pop up. A stock 3.1L upper hose will not match up to where the 3x00 exit is.

FWIW Roberts car has a stock lower hose and then whatever he had for the upper is still on there, that didn't get replaced.

Ah, I see. My mistake. I guess that would complicate it a bit. :(

Yeah, I need to read the obvious more often I think. Like the fact that its a GTU. Jeez I'm such a dipshit sometimes. LOL

Not my headers, Moonwell has one set and Redbird has the other LT's.

They look decent though, as long as they fit.

I PM'd you back on 60v6.

I ordered pretty much most of my stuff yesterday. Everything from Rockauto, 3500/3400 TB adaptor, some exhaust components, MRZ dogbone, and my 3500 upper end (came out to $210 shipped, not too bad). Waiting on info for engine mount bracket.

When the heads get here I'll take them to my machine shop and after cleaning up the engine a bit that will all be together. Then it's just adapting the rest of the swap to work.

Fuel lines need to be gotten from a 94+ 3100 L-body.

Get the lines that go from the factory hard lines - over to the fuel rails. The hard lines end very near the driver side strut tower, you will need a fuel line disconnect tool that can handle GM 5/16 and 3/8 lines. That's what I've got on my car.

For rad hoses - the outlet for the lower doesn't really move - so the most important thing is using a hose that points the overflow hose, and the return to the radiator in the right places. For this, a stock lower for the Beretta is golden. The Montana hose for the upper is also golden. It fits like a golden glove. ;)

Thanks for the info Kurt, that makes things a lot easier to hunt some of these parts down. What kind of headers are you running on your GT? I saw that you got it going with the 5 speed and a 3400 a while back, looked tits.

I think those were Norm's old headers, but I might be wrong.
