Phenolic Spacers, Anyone using em?

Post by Slinky »

I tried to use them on my 95' z26 with a 3500 top end on a 3400 block and the hood hit the plenum in the front left corner and wouldnt let me close the hood..

Anyone else had problems?

I was thinking of grinding alittle of the underside hood support away so it would fit but im not sure i like the engine that close to my hood..

So i might just sell em

People with stock hoods? Not sure on that, but 3X00 had them with a 3400 upper and that cowl hood.

I had no problems with them on my sunbird before i sold em to ya but i do have a carbon fiber hood so maybe thats why idk? should be that because its a nold off a stock hood. Maybe try to space out the hood from the hinges?

I had them on my 3500 upper with stock hood and it pushed up the sound deadener, but due to the near solid mounts I never touched the hood bracing... The Cowl hood well yeah all clearance issues are gone.

I have always wanted a set of these for my 2.8L. There was a group buy for them organized a long time back, but we never got up to the minimum order for it to go live.

I ran a quick short batch of the 2.8/3.1 spacers for testing and those that I sent them too MAY let them go.... but I would have to track them down again to see.

Lower the motor. What type mounts do you have?

You could machine the part that bolts to the motor down a half inch then extend the trans mount tabs on the frame a Half inch. But that's a lot of work for minimal power

You probably don't want them on a 2.8 or 3.1, the runners are long enough as is. Adding more length and volume to them will only shift your powerband lower.

Does an adjustment in length of one inch really change anything? Last I read it would take at least four inches of change to do something. Other than heat transfer, that would be the only change. Port matching by the use of the spacer could be useful. But if you want to do something snag some ported stuff from WOT-tech. That's gasket matched and larger than stock.
I have never tested any spacers so it's only what I read in a old book.Take that with some salt, in other words keep an open mind.

I wouldn't use spacers. It's not going to add any power.

It all depends on how you have your hood stops set as well as your latch... if you have that pulling down to far you will hit.

I take my last post back, Mine apparently did hit my hood... I just found this photo... You can also see where the spark plug wires were into the sound deadner, I had to cut out a square there too.

So, deal with it, or sell them... Or buy a US-body hood... those are your options.
