3100/Auto
3.1/5 speed
2.2 5 speed
2.8/ 5 speed
3.1/auto
2.8/auto
2.2/auto

I have seen a 3100 converted to 5 speed and it was posting similar times to a Quad4.
There was (is?) a turbo manifold on e-bay for the 2.2, which is the easiest to turbo, but not the best to get power from.
Wrong, sorry but 3.1 5 speed beats 3.1 auto, I have owned both 95 z26, 93gt. Along with the fact my friend owns a 96 z26 with 3600 miles on rebuild along with a low mile 4t60e and I can put about 2 car lengths on it in a quater mile. I would also say 2.8 stick would be a close race with a 3100. In a straight line its hard for me to see a 2.2 stick beating a 2.8 stick I have only driven a 2.2 once though.

I have never raced a quad beretta, that is something I have wanted to do since I have had my gt. Everyone says quads are faster, I would love to prove that wrong but maybe I am crazy.

4spd Muncie. Several versions of them could be found in X/A/Fiero.

could be a fun swap into a L body for drag racing

what time did you do with your 3.1 5 speed? and do you have any mods to your car? the 3100 has 15hp over the 5speed 3.1 If you know how to drive the 3100 it will pull on the 1/8mile from you(60' are similar from a 4t60 or 5speed)
the 2.2 I should have said last year they made it 5 speed, they were a little better and would not have a problem putting a 2.8 5speed in it's place.

The only time I have raced out at our dragstrip, I did not get times for my runs. The timer was not on that day, but being that they have started to get busy again I can go out soon and get a timeslip and actully know.

The only mod I had when we were out there was a hooker aero chamber muffler and we both had rapid fire plugs I did have better tires but nothing great. I believe if I were to go race today I could be in the high 15 low 16s. I have never lost to his car strip/street or a 3100 at all to be honest. So I really dont believe its the driver. The only other car I have raced enough to compare is a 01 ss monte carlo all stock and we are almost dead even everytime. I can get about a bumpers length on it if I shift right. I really cant wait tell I get to a berettafest and do some drags, I want to see how a 2.2 and quad stack up.

besides the quad that is a low-Mid 15sec car all the rest are 16secs cars.

Ya I agree a quad on paper should beat my car, I have never even driven a quad anything. I would love to own one though, if I ever found one that was close I would buy it.

Anyone who hasn't ever driven a Quad and only done V6, will be disappointed with Quad because of the completely different driving style it needs.

Basically you just start to make good power when you reach the shifting rpm of V6. You need to be spirited driver to enjoy it.

Even I prefer V6 for daily driver. :)

I definitely would be called a spirited driver haha. Thats one of the great things about the v6 stick combo is all the torque you get it. It makes it much more fun to drive sense you get to actully use the power.

All 25 more torque than a stock quad... And if by "using" the power, you mean spinning the tires, then you're really not going much of anywhere! This is why the quad dominates the Auto-X in comparison. Low end torque is useless in a FWD car unless you can put it to the ground. I know this from my 3800 supercharged V6 swapped 88 Grand Am coupe! lol

I do not mean spinning the tires, my car hooks up just fine 225 firestones do a job great. And in comparison to the quad at what rpm does the quad make its highest amount of torque? The fact that my 130-140 horse 3.1 can push me back in my seat and keep me by a lot more powerfull cars off the line makes me happy, even if I get stomped later. I am not saying the quad is bad or worse by any means, its a great engine. Until I drive one I really won't know how they compare.

Banging gears at 7k+ rpm in a quad is a ton of fun! But I do like driving the 2.8/3.1 5 speed cars as well! I HATE driving the 3100 auto cars!

I bang gears at 6800 in my v6 auto... and it chirps second... I find that fun.

Look at the torque peak though...it is 1600rpm higher in the quad. Look at both cars at 3500rpm or lower and see what the difference in torque is then. The v6 has a lot more grunt under the curve. Hell, the quad probably doesn't make much more than 140hp@4200 either.

I had a Quad4/5spd GTZ...and shifting at 7000 is a lot of fun. But they are gutless around town under normal driving conditions.

I had a 3100/auto...and it was boring. But stoplight to stoplight it would probably beat a quad. Highway top end was nowhere near as good as the quad though. 3400/auto was better than both.

And my 3400/5spd is better than all I've driven...but to be fair the 3400/5spd has headers and throttle body in comparison to the auto which had manifolds and stock 3400 tb.

I agree a lot with what you said woody, its where the v6 makes its power that makes it more fun to be a around town driver, both the engines have there ups and downs as with most things.

And modified I am sure all of us would pick your car over a 3.1 stick or a quad.
