Trustworthy Mechanic
Hello everyone. I am new to this forum but extremely excited I found it and joined. I have an 1989 Beretta GT with a little over 66,000 original miles on it and my TCC Solenoids are shot. The car still runs but only when I keep my foot on the gas while I am stopped. I was wondering if anyone knew of an honest mechanic in the Gardena area? I have called a couple places and they have quoted me well above $500.00 for a part that only costs around $17-45. Is that a good price or should I keep shopping around? If it isn't a good price what should be the most I pay to have this done?

Just unplug the damn thing and forget about it.
Car will run just fine, no warning lights and it won't hurt anything at all.
It will cost you a few more pennies in fuel on the hwy, but I am guessing you won't even notice it,
Save your money.

Unplug the TCC? Sorry but I'm not savvy when it comes to that. Is there something that can walk me through it? I am all about saving money.

Ok this is not Rocket Science by any stretch.
Open the hood and look down the right side (Driver's Side) to where the trans bolts to the engine.
You will see a square plug, usually gray, with 3 or 4 wires coming out of it.
It points directly towards the radiator.
Simply reach down and unplug it.
Problem solved.
The car will run a couple of hundred RPM higher on the hwy, but there is absolutely nothing that will go wrong.
No engine light, no adverse effects on the trans.
Simple fix that I imagine a good number of members on here with 2.8/3.1 3t40 cars are running without issue.
I ran it that way on my V6 before the swap for several years.
That'll be $499.00 LOL!

It's expensive due to the time it takes to replace them as its not easy to access to do it right. You can unplug it as suggested with no adverse affects. Shop around, $500 seems very high. As I recall, I did the daughter's 90 and took about a 1/2 day.
So maybe $240 labor and $35 for the part.

Thank you @ifixalot I thought so too and even got a quote for $750, laughed so hard I had to hang up the phone. I am going to see if unplugging the plug from the TCC works first and if it doesn't then keep searching, hopefully it works on the 3-speed 3T40 automatic 2.8-liter V6 which I am sure it does especially since Asylum knows what he is talking about and now I owe him $499 LOL. I am a single father of 3 girls so money is always tight.

Thank you SuperLbody. That is the plan. I have just hit a financial snag so this will for sure be a short lived solution at least for the next 30 days. I appreciate all your guys' help on this.

That's a crazy amount of money to fix a TCC problem. The TCC is a bit difficult to get to, but it's only around $30 in parts to properly fix it.

I thought so too Cliff8928. I mean these guys think I am a complete idiot. I work on my car most of the time so I know what I am doing but I don't have the proper tools and let alone a the energy I had before my spine surgery to do it myself. I am still going to go unplug the wiring for now as soon as I get my break and at least see if that will temporarily fix the problem till I can find someone who is honest and won't take advantage of me.

Ok so I went to go and disconnect the Square plug and I want to make sure I am unplugging the right one. Is is #1 #2 or #3?
As you can see each picture is numbered. Sorry to keep bugging you guys and I want to make sure before I unplug anything it's the right one.

None of those pics have the plug in them.
I have the same trans in my mini van.
Here is a pic of the plug on mine. It's the blue one.
It's down on the bottom on the transmission
